About Safety and Security
The Office of Safety and Security consists of three units and over 100 personnel. The mission of the office is to provide a safe and secure environment for all members of the university community. This mission is achieved through active participation of all university members and partnerships with local law enforcement and community partners. University Statement Regarding Non-Specific Threats to Washington, DC

The George Washington University is aware of the non-specific threats allegedly made by ISIS against Washington, D.C. and other western countries. The authenticity of the video has not been verified. According to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and federal partners, there are no credible threats to the Washington, D.C. and other western cities and countries. The Office of Safety and Security continues to monitor developments and work closely with local and federal law enforcement partners. The university community is reminded to report any unusual activity or objects out of place to the GW Police Department at 202-994-6111 or call 911.

Emergency Preparedness
In the event of an emergency, updates and information will be posted to Campus Advisories. Information during an emergency, or a change in the university’s operating status, also will be communicated via GW Alerts (text and e-mail), the GW Information Line at 202-994-5050 and social media via Twitter and Facebook. The Virginia Science an d Technology Campus will provide updates at 571-553-8333, and the School of Medicine and Health Sciences will provide updates at 202-994-3501.

All members of the GW community with a valid GW e-mail address will receive a GW Alert e-mail. To customize your GW Alert settings, visit GWeb Information System and select the GW Alert Emergency Notification tab. Register your cell phone numbers and e-mail addresses in order to receive text and e-mail alerts on multiple devices.
