Description: Taught by EMeRG, you will learn how to perform CPR and use an AED. Upon passing a short test, you will receive a two-year certification card (American Safety and Health Institute).

Description: Participants will receive an overview on fire prevention, how to use a fire extinguisher and practice extinguishing a controlled live fire.

Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

Description: This training reviews the potential respiratory hazards while performing on-the-job tasks and recognizing conditions where respirators are needed. This course outlines the procedures for respiratory protection to include proper fitting and use of a respirator.

Duration: 1 hour

Description: GWPD Self Defense instruction covers basic stance, strikes, and blocks. Each technique is specifically designed to be utilized in the event of an attack. While the majority of our classes are geared toward sexual assault prevention for women, this class can be beneficial for men as well. Athletic apparel is considered appropriate attire for the course. Also, we ask that participants refrain from wearing jewelry to prevent loss or damage. As this class is physically demanding, persons with preexisting physical conditions may not be permitted to engage in some of the activities as a precaution against aggravating their condition. Our instructors will work with you to avoid injury while maximizing your participation. All required protective equipment will be provided by GW Police.

Description: Required annual training for Division of Operations employees. This training provides staff with the proper education about the hazards of asbestos and where they could be found on GW campuses and protection from exposure.

Description: Required annual training for Division of Operations employees who often have to lift heavy items during the work day. This course will educate you on three primary ways to maintain a healthy back while working use proper lifting techniques, maintain a healthy weight and exercise to keep the back muscles strong. As a participant, you will get a chance to practice proper lifting techniques during the class.

Duration: 1 hour

Target Audience: Division of Operations employees

Description: The course covers biosafety levels of research areas, Universal Precaution vs. Standard Precaution and maintaining good infection control practices while working at GW. This course also includes a demonstration of proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). It is highly recommended to take Laboratory Safety training prior to this course.

Duration: 1 hour

Target Audience: GW employees who will be in contact with blood and/or human or animal bodily fluids.

Description: Required annual training for Division of Operations employees. Entry into certain types of confined spaces, such as manholes, crawlspaces, tanks and pipe chases, may pose a significant risk to workers. Employees who may need to enter these spaces should be trained in the safe work practices and Personal Protective Equipment required. Training must be provided prior to entry into space and repeated whenever there are changes in hazards.

Description:  Are volunteer staff members who may assist and be the main point of contact during an emergency. In this session, you will learn your responsibility during an emergency and how to work with first responders. You will also go through a discussion-based scenario. It is recommended to take General Safety Training prior to this course.

Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

Description:  To learn the basics of how to prepare for emergencies on-campus. You will learn the difference between evacuation and shelter-in-place when to perform the action, fire prevention tips and emergency resources available. This course is recommended to take prior to Floor Warden Training.

Description:  This annual training was developed to educate the GW community on the new Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of chemical classification and labeling.

Description: Required annual training for Division of Operations employees. This training review the definition, processes, and process for when, where and how to get a hot work or red tag permit.

Duration: 1 hour

Description: Required annual training for those who work in a research or teaching lab. You will learn proper guidelines for safe practices and procedures for the use of chemicals (e.g., disposal, spill clean-up, labeling, storage).

Description: Required annual training for Campus Security Authorities, in accordance with the Jeanne Clery Act. This training covers the following topics: overview of the Clery Act, definitions and roles of Campus Security Authorities, identification of reportable incidents, procedures on how to report incidents, and timely reporting requirements.
