Automated External Defibrillators (AED)
Automated external defibrillators (AED) are installed in highly trafficked buildings on our Foggy Bottom, Mount Vernon and Virginia campuses to provide that immediate care is available to victims of sudden cardiac arrest. The goal of the university ergonomics program is to reduce or eliminate hazards that contribute to the development of musculoskeletal disorders (MSD). The program involves all employees whose job duties expose them to ergonomic risk factors. For more information, contact [email protected].
GW developed the Hazard Communication Program to prevent hazardous material injuries while using chemicals in the workplace. Information concerning identified hazards and appropriate hazard control mechanisms are provided to individual employees who work with hazardous chemicals. 3D Printer Safety
GW developed the 3D Printer Policy and Guidelines to establish parameters for the safe use of 3D printers in GW facilities.
Personal Protective Equipment
Personal protective equipment (PPE) is used to create a protective barrier between the worker and the hazards in the workplace. PPE includes such equipment as gloves, safety shoes, protective clothing and safety glasses. Personal protective equipment is not a replacement for good engineering controls, administrative controls or work practices. Rather, PPE should be used in conjunction with these controls to ensure the health and safety of employees.
